Whittlesey & District LC's Fundraising
Whittlesey & District
Each year we enter a Tree in our local church Christmas Tree Festival.

This takes place over 3 days and is very popular with visitors.

As you can see from the photo we took the bold step of decorating our tree with sanitary products and Izal paper snowflakes.

The fairy on the top wore a Sari made from toilet roll. It was all very tastefully done.

Information about the project was set up nearby and drew a considerable amount of attention. Bookmarks from the website were available for people to take away.

The products were donated to a local women's shelter afterwards.

Since September we have raised:

  • £305.00 from a belly dancing evening
  • £147.00 from a Film Star Fancy Dress night
  • £ 10.00 instead of sending cards at Christmas

Project SARIs – "Not Girls but Not Yet Women"

Many of GB&I Circlers arrived in Tallin full of fun and friendship.

Mandy Vines (IPP) and Michelle Taylor (President) paved the way at the council meeting with much fun and song!

Dressed in saris, the bid for the International Service Project was on for the AGM on the Friday. Once again, Michelle Taylor and Sharon Abba, sang their hearts out, accompanied by Chris Wright (Project Chairman) and Trudy Kennedy (National Charities Officer) who also wore beautiful saris on a very hot day.

GB&I had won the bid...

Now the work has to start.

GB&I will head the new International Project 2007/09 with the help of the rest of LCI. We look forward to working beside you.

Just a reminder that your International Service Project (ISP) continues, according to our records Gill has £1100 in the National LCI Bank Account.

This is a great effort, however I know many of you have held events and not told me (I know because Lynda has put some on the web site).

Please let us know what you are up to, and how much you have raised, even if you are saving up for a full toilet block.

It could be anything from a coffee morning to a huge event & it might give another Circle an idea for something they could do and benefit from.

Many of you are organising events and holding onto the money especially if it is your charity for the year. I appreciate you would like to send us enough for a whole toilet block or the money at the end of your year, however Gill is keen to keep the money rolling in so don’t be scared of sendng her a cheque and telling her you plan to raise a complete block, our records will tell us when you make it and we will ensure a block is dedicated to you.

In the meantime even if monies aren’t sent to Gill , please pass on information about what you have raised, how it was raised, and if possible a photo. A web site is difficult to produce without you telling us what’s going on.

Lynda has made a sterling job so far, you can find recent reports and downloads of book marks, posters and other stuff. Do go and have a look on the national website under LCI ISP 2007-2009.

The process of getting funds to the International Charity Project is on the web site but the basic process is to send cheques to HQ and an email to me so I know where it’s from.

A very few of you have been in touch with ideas for which I am very grateful. As it is the festive season, here they are

Stamps (not just for Christmas)

When those cards arrive tear off the stamps and save them. Arrange to get them delivered to a Council Meeting (or to me direct) and I will arrange for them to be turned into cash. Don’t forget they can be any stamps not just those from your Christmas cards.
Exact requirements (like keeping 1inch of envelope around the stamps) is available on the ISP web site.
I have been able to circulate an email at work and the stamps are already pouring in (despite it not being Christmas yet!). Non circling friends and family next:

Send an E-Card

Send an E-card or arrange in your circle not to send cards at all and put £1 (or more) in the pot. If every member did this we would have enough for 4 toilet blocks . Please any monies raised to the February Council Meeting (or send it to Gill in advance) and we can send Gill away with a challenge to bank it (and if you do send cards remember to keep any stamps).

These are just a few of the ideas over this Christmas period and I am sure there are more, encourage your circles to have their own ideas and let me know so we can put them on the web site to share with others.

Schools

There is a suggested letter for schools and also a presentation suitable for secondary schools and teachers which will be added to the web site shortly, this has been quite popular in my area and 2 schools have so far raised funds a local secondary school is just raising a cheque for 2 toilet blocks and I hope that the junior school will raise a second one.

This is your International Project please keep it up.

BTW any budding journalists out there, let me know. I seem to have many reports and news articles to write and we need to feed regular info to Lynda for the web site and lots more, especially as the funds start to flow in and we start building.

Your card – Michelle Law (area chairman area 43) sneaking a kiss from santa (don’t tell her other half)

This just leaves me to wish you all
A Very Merry Christmas
And
A Happy New Year
