...a new members perspectiveWhat could be more pleasant than straddling a greasy pole in a pink wig? Anything, frankly! An early introduction to Amersham Ladies Circle was what you might call a rude awakening. In September, I met some lovely ladies at the Maidenhead 50th anniversary when Niki Stocken, National President, gave a wonderful speech highlighting the number of "firsts" she's experienced since joining the Ladies Circle. I joined on 11th August and, in that short time, I have started a rather grown-up party with a peach schnapps shot, agreed to go pole dancing with my gorgeous stepdaughters and volunteered to organise a fashion show! Shortly after my little girl Lily (now 4) was born, I bumped into a fellow Irish woman who suggested I join the Ladies Circle. No doubt the overly friendly coffee drinking Irish woman (that's me!) looked like she needed a couple of pals! Actually, she was probably right as, having worked in the City since 1988, I literally did not know a single person in Amersham! Anyway, being a bit of a slow starter (I blame the brain cells killed by giving birth!) it wasn't until I spotted a Ladies Circle stall at a local fair this Summer (hosted by the lovely Circlers - Sue and Josephine) that I took much notice. I knew Sue from Jazzercise where we jiggled our wobbly bits and she was quick to pin me down to attend a regular meeting. It would be fair to say that I'm not shy but I got cold feet half an hour before and attempted to cancel ... pathetic! Lucky for me, Sue wasn't taking "no" that evening (or any evening I suspect!) so off I trotted. I arrived to join an intimate dinner but the ladies couldn't have been more friendly. I feared rejection on the basis that I'm not too ladylike but perhaps they felt there was a glimmer of hope! So, here I am Ladies Circler, alive with possibilities and looking forward to futuristic, fun filled, friendly, fund-raising frolics! Catherine Klyhn
