Bushey & Oxhey Ladies Circle held their Christmas dinner in November this year so that we could devote our December energies to helping Round Table with the Santa Float rounds.

And we decided to make it a bit different this year.  We bought an online Murder Mystery kit which was called I Dream of Djinnie.  The story goes that the producer of a local am-dram society is murdered during the dress rehearsal of the Christmas Panto (Aladdin).

Us Circlers got dressed up in our respective costumes and turned up at Eve’s house ready for a rip roaring evening.  My own character, Ava Nanna, was an Arabian character who was more than a bit shady.  I dressed in black, with a black cloak, turban, moustache and mono-brow.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t remember which house Eve lived at, so went to the wrong address!  The owner of the house answered the door, took one look at me and told me that I’d come to the wrong house.  Oops!

Anyway, Eve’s house was a real-life Santa’s grotto.  Tinsel, ornaments, baubles, nativity scenes, crackers, red and gold everywhere!  We shared a dinner that we’d all brought with us.  Meanwhile, we acted out the murder mystery between courses.  Some of the lines were a bit crude and I think the wine we were drinking confused our identities on more than a few occasions.  But, eventually, the murderer was revealed – it was me!  And I got away with it – no-one guessed!  I must be a really good liar and have an extraordinarily innocent face.

We finished the evening by swapping secret santas – strawberry style shower caps and ‘therapy in a box’ gifts are always useful.

Anyway, this rounded off a really good year for our Circle.  We’re looking forward to a bumper 2010 and hope to attend the AGM in Harrogate as a newly thriving Circle.

With best wishes to you all.
