In April this year, Area 20 Treasurer and Loughborough Vice Chair Beccy May will be trekking across part of the Great Wall of China to raise funds for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.

The trek will take Beccy across 80km of the impressive Great Wall walking for 6-8 hours per day over varied terrain as the wall scales the mountain ranges North East of Beijing.

Nicola Adcock, Events Fundraiser for Rainbows, says ‘Rainbows is the only hospice for children and young people in the East Midlands, and relies on the support of people like Beccy to raise the £2.8million we need each year to continue supporting children and young people with life limiting illnesses and life threatening conditions.’

Beccy, who will become Chairman of Loughborough Circle in April, is hoping to raise £5000 and is already in training for this challenge. ‘As a member of circle we raise funds for local charities throughout the year however I wanted to do something a bit more challenging and kick start my year as Chair with a big event. I have completed the London Marathon however this is a totally new challenge and one that I hope will raise money for such a worthy local cause such as Rainbows. I am hoping it will also raise the profile of Ladies Circle both locally and nationally.’

The trek will not only encompass some stunning views and magnificent scenery but also involves cultural interaction with the local Chinese community including a visit to a village school.
