The Performing Rights Society
We have been contacted by the Performing Rights Society to check on our licence for performing music during our Ladies Circle activities.
As an organisation we do not need a licence as in our work place we have no need to perform/play music.
However, if you are organising events where music is concerned, as a Circle/Area you will have to ensure that the venue has a PRS licence, allowing music to be performed.
If the venue does not have this licence, then a ‘one-off’ licence can be obtained directly from the PRS at an approximate cost of £20. Visit www.mcps-prs.alliance.co.uk for more information on how to apply.
If you are using a local village hall and are unsure as to the licensing there please enquire on booking or seek help and advice through the Christian Copyright Licence Society www.ccli.co.uk
This organisation deals with licences for churches, halls, place of worship etc.
If you are in any doubt as to whether you need a ‘music’ licence for your forthcoming event please follow these steps:
- Enquire at venue hire for licence information – if YES, you are ok! If No, you need to contact the PRS society www.mcps-prs.alliance.co.uk or 0800 068 4828
- If hiring a village/church hall and unsure on licence contact www.ccli.co.uk for more information.
- If the music event is being held in your home eg. music quiz then there is no need for a licence.
Music licences are needed for the simplest of events charity music quizzes, fashion shows, anything that involves playing music over a sound system. A fine can be incurred if a licence is not produced when asked. Remember if you are selling your event locally, be aware that you NEED a license if music is being performed or played. |
