Welcome to all current Circlers and potential new members taking a look at the membership pages.

I’m Vicky the NEW National Membership Officer.

NALC is the best young women’s organisation on the planet. I know that and you know that so let’s shout it from the rooftops!

  • Building on your Circles success?

Also share your ideas with me! Let’s get them on here and then everyone can benefit. GET IN TOUCH and let’s work together.

If you are interested in joining Circle contact me and I’ll put you in touch with your nearest group.

Here’s what others have been up to...

Buxton Rise to the Membership Challenge - July 2008

This came in from Susanne Howe, Chairman of Buxton LC. What a great idea. Well done girls.

Since we've been corresponding about membership quite a bit recently, I thought I'd show you this link which was shown on Central region ITV news in bulletins throughout Monday.

It follows up the challenge we set ourselves to sleep in Pooles Cavern in Buxton. Our Circle has raised an amazing £2,500 for our two chosen charities - Charis House Family Centre and Buxton Mountain Rescue. Just as importantly, it's raised the profile of Circle in the town and we're now welcoming half a dozen prospective members. Doing something so extraordinary has really dispelled the myths of what LC is all about.

In addition, we had a number of corporate sponsors who have taken the story up, so it's had a kind of ripple effect which will carry on for a while to come.

As if these benefits aren't enough, focussing on a big project has brought (what was essentially a group of new members) together to form firm friendships. We've all played our part and I can honestly say that I've never worked in such a strong team - socially or professionally. As I said to our Area chair, if we could bottle the team spirit we have at the moment then we'd be rich!

Yours in friendship

Susanne Howe, Chairman, Buxton Ladies Circle

Lichfield 106 - Mum’s Night Out Event – May 2008

We had our Mums Nights Out event in Lichfield on Wednesday and I thought you might like to see the pictures!

www.mumsnightsout.co.uk

Things were really good.  We had loads of interest, and the girls created the most fantastic atmosphere around the stand – we were buzzing all night!

As a result, we’ve got one interested lady definitely coming to our next meeting on Tuesday – in fact she’s the speaker (makeup artist), with a view to finding out more, and several more ladies to follow up on.

The stand itself looked fantastic – we had a rolling powerpoint of all the pictures from this year, and a bit of a presentation I did for last year’s members night.

We also created our own flier – again from two of the girls input.

We’ve bought our own website, which at the moment is sending viewers directly to our micro-site on our local aboutmyarea.  We are in the process of designing our own website and I’ll keep you up to date on that.  www.lichfieldladiescircle.co.uk

As a couple of pieces of advice to other circles, if they are interested in doing something similar:

  • Get a circle sim card and an old mobile phone, so any fliers, etc, would display a generic phone number which the chair carries around – I received my first call on it the day after the function, so we know it works!  Also it means that you don’t have to change the flier every time the contact person changes.
  • Use some form of data capturing for the contacts you make – we slipped up on this, and only realised part way through the evening that we’d missed a trick here, in terms of formally taking names and numbers of interested ladies.  Silly of us really!  Maybe a raffle, or even just a clipboard.  We also provided sweets on the stand.
  • We have had some t-shirts printed free of charge through a contact – it was lovely to be dressed the same, or at least with the circle logo on.

As a group, we’ve come to the conclusion that this year we must focus on building our team and building further links with Table.  This has become quite important to us, it appears, and our view is that if we get that right, then the charity will follow.

So no big event this year – lots of little ones, focussing on fun and friendship.  Whatever we do for charity will be a bonus, just for a short while. (Having said that we’re doing rather well so far, having just given away £600 to various charities, and already raised over £100 since the AGM!!)

You may be interested to know that Lichfield were ready to hang up their hats about six months ago, but Viv and the girls took up the challenge and look at them now!!  Vicx
