Harpenden in Majorca!

Although members of Harpenden  Circle spend a fair bit of time  fundraising for local and national charities, it's not all work and no play!

Ten Harpenden Circlers (including myself) recently spent an October weekend of Fun and Friendship in glorious sunshine.

Living in Harpenden means it's easier (and often cheaper) to hop on a plane from Luton Airport to a host of exciting destinations than it is to catch a train or bus to almost anywhere on our small island.

We boarded the first flight of the day to our chosen destination Palma.  We were delighted to arrive to warm sunshine, welcoming pavement cafes and bars, breathtaking sights (not to mention the transvestites in the local nightclubs), tapas to share, amazing sea views and of course numerous shops to tempt us.

We spent an action packed weekend  sightseeing, eating, drinking, dancing and generally having fun.

This is surely what Circle is all about?

Well yes but, we're not just a social club is what we keep repeating at our meetings and it doesn't seem to be putting any of our prospective members off.  Our  membership is now at forty with a few prospectives eager to join, all of whom will be trapsing the streets next week wanting to get involved in our annual fundraising event.

Some of us took a hard earned rest to prepare ourselves ahead of our phenomenal Gift and Craft Fair which takes place at the end of November each year, now this is when we could do with a little of that mediterranean sunshine!

Next Tuesday evening and the remaining Tuesday evenings in November we will spend knocking on doors selling programmes around the streets of Harpenden whatever the weather!  However, that's not enough we've decided so we will also be shaking buckets and handing out balloons in the High Street on the Saturday and Sunday before the big event too.

Are we mad you may be wondering.......not exactly, we're buzzing!  Last year we raised £14,000 for charity at our Gift & Craft Fair and who knows what we'll achieve this year. It may be the year of the credit crunch but for us it is also the first year that we have secured corporate sponsorship and so thanks to Waitrose we are optimistic that our efforts will pay off.

All it remains for me to say is that if you haven't got a better offer then do come and support Harpenden Circle Gift & Craft Fair 2008 at Harpenden Public Halls Friday 28 November and Saturday 29 November 9.30-4.30pm admission is by programme, minimum donation of £2.00 on the day.
We look forward to welcoming you!
