Kathryn Lloyd and Lesley Moss, two very active members of Northwich Ladies Circle, have reason to be very proud of themselves... They spent nine days in September walking some 226 miles from Northwich to just south of Edinburgh in Scotland to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. The reason for this incredible feat was that Kathryn lost her Dad, Jim Brown, in 1995 to cancer and 10 years on she wanted to mark this anniversary by celebrating his life and raising money at the same time.
The reason for ending the walk at the Cancer Research shop in Musselburgh, Scotland, is because her Mum (Nan Brown) lives there, so it’s a ‘walk home’.
The figure of £2,000 was the original target and the girls felt that would make this mammoth task worth while. To realise the final figure was in excess of £10,000 was absolutely fantastic.
The girls were also busy around the local schools in Northwich and were delighted with the response and had six schools following their daily progress which was updated daily by email from Lesley's husband. A huge list of family and friends also concerned, were constantly sending text messages of encouragement and calls to keep their morale high.
They even had a good luck mention on the Paul O'Grady show, and they recieved a lot of support along the way with different friends and family taking turns walking with them on most of the days.
"Walking approximately the equivalent of a marathon every day, was a challenge for both of us, but we know that the all the aches and pain we have suffered will be worthwhile, and along with the generosity of people we met en route." Kathryn Lloyd.
A cheque was presented to Peter Whalley, Community Fundraiser from Cancer Research with money still being donated.
Kathryn actually ran the London Marathon in 2000 raising over £1500 for Round Tables Children's Wish. Both Kathryn and Lesley are very active members of Ladies Circle, and help raise thousands of pounds each year for a variety of chosen charities this year with a total over £20,000. |
