In an effort to increase awareness of the plight of youth homelessness, Shirley Ladies Circle braved the freezing cold rainy weather on Friday 4th December and raised an impressive £2,000 for their chosen charity St Basils, by taking part in The Big Sleep Out.
The ladies aim to further increase this grand total by helping Santa with their collection tins as he tours the streets of Shirley this month.
St Basils is a local charity which provides supported accommodation for young people ages 16 to 25 and a range of support services including: prevention services; housing aid and advice; family mediation and mediators; peer educators; key workers, learning skills and work; advice and guidance on education employment and training; resettlement and floating support.
Each year Shirley Ladies Circle’s Chairman nominates a charity for their fundraising focus. This year’s Chairman, Sharon Pick chose St Basils as the worthy cause. The money raised on Friday goes a long way to reaching the goal of £3,500 set by Sharon at the beginning of her year as Chairman.
