After the overwhelming support shown by the GB&I membership during their National Conference at Cardiff in May a bid for the International Service Project (ISP) was made. A PowerPoint presentation that was going to “hit the spot” was produced with a logo that would be acceptable internationally, a name that might not have Chrissy known as the toilet lady for the next two years and a strap line that reflected the project, and a song.
The International Council Meeting saw Michelle and Mandy dressed in Saris and ready to present. After realising we had slight technical difficulties (it appeared we had no sound in the room) Michelle stood up and sang unaccompanied throughout the presentation and was received very well.
On with the conference and forward to the AGM, Trudy and Chrissy helping with the presentation and it was decided they should wear the saris and that Michelle and Sharon would sing live while the presentation was running, so at coffee with the assistance of friends from Ladies Circle India, Trudy and Chrissy were “dressed”. Sharon and Michelle sung live “Not a girl, not yet a Woman”, the “theme song” of the bid.
After sitting through the AGM it was wonderful to find out we had been successful and are able to work with Ladies Circle India on this project I know they are thrilled and looking forward to helping so many girls in school
So what next...
The National Project Coordinators in India (they have 2) are setting up a process for applications for toilet blocks to ensure they are located in the best places (obviously next to school buildings) to ensure maximum benefit.
So please spread the word, invite the Project Co-Ordinator Chrissy Wright or the NALC Charities Officer to any events to enable them to promote the project or if you need any promotional materials so that you can promote your event then please contact us.
