In spite of being told ghost stories in the run up to their sponsored sleep-over at Poole's Cavern, Buxton Ladies Circle still managed to brave the cave! They're possibly the first group to spend the whole night in the attraction for 5,000 years.

Community Services Officer Helen Wright‚ said: "We were told that around 350 body parts had been found in the cavern, just near to where we'd set up camp and that strange voices had been heard in the chambers. And we did hear one 'unidentifiable bump in the night'... We certainly couldn't‚ have done it‚ without each other!"

The Ladies' main sponsors were Go Outdoors, Bryant Homes, and Buxton Water - and thanks to them, and all their other sponsors. They've raised in the region of £2,500 for Charis House which helps women and their families escape and recover from domestic violence‚ and Buxton Mountain Rescue, which is run entirely by volunteers.

The eleven Ladies said because of all the recent rain, the cave was particularly damp and‚ pretty chilly. They want to thank the Taj Mahal restaurant for warming them up with curry before going in, Tesco Express for delivering a hamper on the night, and the Old Hall Hotel for bringing them hot drinks and pastries in the morning. Oh - and the local Round
Table for emptying their chemical toilet in the morning! (They were apparently amazed to find it half full!!)

Chair Susanne Howe said: "It was an amazing experience, and generated a lot of money for our charities, plus a lot of publicity for Circle. We're already planning our next adventure - this one was pretty cold - a constant 7C in fact‚ - so‚ we have our sights set somewhere warmer... The Caribbean has already been suggested!?!"
